Telemedicine - What to Know
Telemedicine allows you to receive psychiatric healthcare remotely, using secure video calls or phone calls, instead of visiting the office in person. Telemedicine consultations offer benefits such as improved access to care and the convenience of attending appointments from a location of your choice, as long as it is within the state of Rhode Island, which is where Dr. Erin Gates is currently licensed.
Whether you're at home, at work, or in another private setting, you can receive medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, and even prescriptions from the comfort of your own space, as long as you have access to a phone, tablet, or computer with the necessary technology.
Potential Risks
However, there are potential risks associated with telemedicine. These include issues with accessing medical services in the event of an emergency, which is why Dr. Gates needs to know your exact location during the appointment in case of an emergency. Other risks include technical difficulties such as connection problems or interruptions during your consultation, and the potential for unauthorized access to your personal health information.
Your Privacy & Security
At Erin Gates, MD LLC, we take your privacy and security seriously. We use HIPAA-compliant video conferencing platforms such as Kareo (our electronic medical record software) and Doxy.me, which are both secure and encrypted to protect your information. Additionally, when indicated, phone calls (audio-only) can also be used for appointments (when agreed upon) making the process even more accessible.
If you have any questions about telemedicine or need assistance setting up an appointment, don't hesitate to ask.
